Honorary Dean
Honorary Dean: Charlie Dixon
Charlie Dixon, Captain (retired), has over 47 years of combined volunteer and career Fire Service and over 20 years in the Oil and Natural Gas Industry. Charlie is currently an Ohio Certified Emergency Services Instructor II, Live Fire Instructor, and FFII. Charlie has been a Certified Fire Safety Inspector, former fire/arson investigation team member, and HazMat Team Member. Over his career, he has served as a volunteer firefighter and advanced EMT with Bladensburg Fire District as a Lieutenant. He also worked for Granville Volunteer Fire Department from 1987 until 2002 as a FF/EMS Provider, Lieutenant, Captain, and EMS Coordinator. Additionally, he served as a Fire and EMS Instructor with Knox County JVS and Licking County JVS. Charlie has also taught at numerous County Fire Schools in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia over the years. Furthermore, Charlie is a former Triage Paramedic, Hospital EMS Coordinator, Fire Training Officer II, and Fire Training Supervisor with the Ohio Fire Academy.
Charlie worked for the City of Columbus Division of Fire as a Civilian EMS Educator for Recruit and ON Company Training. He is in his 3rd term as a member of the Ohio Fire Council, representing the Flammable Liquids Industry, and currently serves as President of the Ohio Society of Fire Services Instructors. Charlie was awarded the 2024 Fire Educator Lifetime Achievement Award by the Ohio Division of EMS. He is a Fire Content/Industry Content Advisor for the Ohio Natural Energy Institute GOSAFER Program, and also helps to facilitate safety training for first responders and industry workers.
Charlie lives in Licking County with his wife Jill, who is a Columbus, Ohio FF/EMT-P. They enjoy spending time with their adult children and going on beach vacations. Charlie also likes to play golf and is an avid bird watcher.
